We are absolutely delighted that this inspection has resulted in a report that publicly recognises the outstanding ethos and education provided at Bourne Abbey.  It bears out the confidence we have in the leadership and vision of the Headteacher, Mrs Cherry Edwards and the hard work, skills and passionate commitment of the whole leadership team, teachers, support staff, parents and governors who have brought us to the stage where Ofsted describe us as an 'Outstanding School'.

Mr J A Kirkman

Chair of Governors

We are exceptionally proud of our school and what has been achieved.  The inspection report has confirmed what our parents have clearly acknowledged; that we are a school with clarity of vision, outstanding leadership at every level, imagination, care and support and a capacity for sheer effort and effectiveness of which they can be confident.

Above all we are proud of our pupils.  They are the stars of this report.  The comments in the report pay tribute to their joy and love of learning.  'Pupils behave extremely well and make the most of what the school offers....They look forward to school, bring a great sense of goodwill and a desire to be part of everything.

Head Teacher

Dear Pupils

It was good to meet so many of you and to listen to your views.  Special thanks go to the School Council and to those of you I joined at lunchtime.  This letter is to give you a flavour of what is in my full report.  Here are some of the excellent features of your school.

  • You make a super start to your schooling in Nursery and Reception.
  • You make outstanding progress with your work in Years 1 to 6 and leave the school with above average standards in English and mathematics and very high standards in science.
  • The headteacher, teachers and all the staff organise the school extremely well for your benefit.
  • You enjoy school very much because teachers and other adults care for you so well and help you to learn.
  • You have an excellent knowledge of how to keep healthy and safe.
  • You work hard and behave extremely well.
  • The school council is working really well and so are the Playground Buddies.  You raised a very large sum of money for charities last year.

Your teachers have noticed that there is one area that needs attention, and I agree.

  • Boys, you need to continue to keep trying hard to improve the content of your writing.

I hope that you will all keep on working hard and improving what you do.

Yours sincerely

Mr R Fry

Lead Ofsted Inspector
